Died: September 6, 2023, Hesperia, California
Floyd Joseph Lucia II was born on August 23, 1955 at Sampson AFB in New York. He began his journey in life as the first son of Floyd “Joe” and Nancy Lucia. His father was on active duty with the U.S. Air Force and their family moved several times during Floyd’s childhood. Locations during his early years included time in Mississippi, Montana, Utah, and California. He was a baptized Christian in the Lutheran tradition. In 1974 Floyd graduated from Fountain Valley High School in Fountain Valley, California and joined the US Army to pursue his love of aviation. He trained as an airborne sensor specialist in the OV-1 Mohawk in Sierra Vista, Arizona; and as a forward air controller at Lawton, Oklahoma. Eventually he moved to the US Air Force Reserve and served as a loadmaster. Floyd also earned his FAA flight engineer certification and flew with several civilian DC-8 operators. Floyd is survived by his wife Robin, daughter Jessica, two grandchildren, three brothers and a sister.
A memorial service will be held September 23, 2023 at the HI-Desert Church of Christ in Apple Valley, California.
Floyd is remembered as an enthusiastic and patriotic husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was an Eagle Scout and displayed the resilience, resourcefulness, and persistence of those trained and experienced with military life. Floyd was friendly, adaptable, and generous. He will be greatly missed by his large extended family and the communities he served.

Michael Lucia
Floyd, my cousin, came to live with our family in June of 1973. He worked as a security guard nights and weekends. We had a lot of fun that summer. We were together in Lynn Sherman’s aviation class along with Craig Kodera. Floyd finished all of the graduation requirements for his diploma and joined the Army in January of 1974. His death from natural causes came as a surprise; although apparently he knew he was ill and didn’t say much to anyone about it. He will be greatly missed from our large extended family.
