Tom Bergeson

Thomas J. Bergeson, passed away 11 Feb 2015 in his sleep, entering the next phase of his life. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones, all who loved him deeply and unconditionally. He was born 25 Apr 1956. He spent his early years as a happy, goofy, funny kid, who loved his mom, teased his three younger sisters relentlessly and played Neil Young's "Old Man," as loud as his speakers could go...also relentlessly. He loved reading western novels and watching western movies, especially anything with John Wayne.

His life changed dramatically 14 Mar 1977, when at the age of 20, he was involved in an auto-pedestrian accident, leaving him very near death. Tom had to learn how to do many things all over again, including the ability to walk. His life had been a struggle ever since with many physical and mental limitations that could not be overcome in this life.

Through all of his challenges, he never lost his sense of humor. In fact, his humor could be described as "unplugged", at best. The boy had no filter but no one could laugh at his corny, homemade jokes more than himself. If you didn't laugh at his jokes, you'd certainly laugh at him laughing at his own jokes. He had an infectious laugh and he'd get you one way or the other.

Despite being a little rough around the edges, Tom had a very special place in the heart for children...and man did he they love him back. He had them giggling and laughing the entire time he was around. So many little great-nieces and great-nephews will sorely miss their "Uncle Tom".

Tom was able to work at several jobs throughout his life. The one he loved the most was being a custodian at Sandridge Jr. High for eight years. This job gave him a much needed sense of pride and he earned the respect and friendship of the students and faculty alike. He was even named "Employee of the Month", which made his family all very proud. He eventually had to leave that job due to chronic back pain, stemming from that horrible accident he suffered so long ago.

There is a timeless saying that, "There is no greater love than a mother's love for her child", and there is no greater example of that than his mom. She spent dozens of hours caring for Tom despite her own health struggles. She has been Tom's hero throughout his difficult life and he will surely be returning the favor now as he watches over her from heaven.

As per Tom's wishes, no funeral will be held. A graveside service will be held at Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.
