In Memory

Janet Barkawi (Farmer)

Janet Barkawi (Farmer)

Janet Barkawi

The words of Etienne de Grellet, the French American Quaker, come to mind.

“I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now.

Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Janet is one of those who exemplified these words, and she made our world a better place.

Mrs. Barkawi taught at Fountain Valley High School from 1966 - 2001.

Janet entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

I had her for two years, MGM English. She is one of my favorite teachers ever, and made a big impact on my life. She was funny, smart, kind, caring, and a true force of nature. Her memory will always be a blessing.

Mrs. Barkawi by far was the Best teacher I ever had. Her outlook on life and her care for all of her students was fantastic. She made learning easy and fun for me. For her to put up with someone like me in her class for two years that's Dedication. She will be missed and forever in my heart she made me a better person.

I have fond memories of her eleventh grade English class. We had an assignment in which we were to choose a partner and then research and portray two people from opposite ends of the entertainment spectrum. We then interviewed each other in front of the class.  My partner, Denise W, who is still my friend today, and I,  chose David Bowie and Lawrence Welk.  We were Bowie obsessed and were so glad to have the opportunity to talk about him in front of our classmates. We also learned a lot about Lawrence Welk. This was one of my favorite assignments ever and was so glad for the opportunity to do something so creative and ( for the time period), outlandish.
